Tutee Study Level:
Academic / Musical Achivements: PhD. Cancer Biology BSc. Human Genetics, Upper Second A-Levels: Chemistry, Biology, Maths Tutoring Experience / Style: I was trained as a biologist at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels and I currently teach Pre-University Chemistry and Biology at a private college. Thus, I am comfortable teaching both Chemistry and Biology. Eventhough my lessons are focused, there is also an element of fun in them. My teaching style emphasises the need for good literacy skills and a thorough understanding of a subject matter as opposed to rote learning. Through thorough understanding of a subject, students can then make connections within and between subject areas. My lessons and homework sheets may include magazine and newspaper articles, mind mapping, relevant thought labs and where suitable, activities that aim to enhance understanding and allow a more hands-on and holistic approach to learning. I have developed effective teaching strategies, various activities and evaluation methods that allow for different learning styles of each individual, encourage critical and analytical thinking, and tap into each student's creativity. I have also had the privilege of working with students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, as well as with those with English as a second language. The knowledge acquisition and success of my students remain my highest priority and I am fully committed to ensuring that they leave with a solid grounding in the subject matter and are well-prepared for further education. Special Training / Skills: I spent over 5 years in an academic scientific research setting which puts me in a unique position to impart to my students the importance of science and the scientific method, and to help them develop good laboratory and research skills. |
